US Supreme Court clears way for generic patent challenges
After the ruling, generic manufacturers will now be able to challenge the content of patent descriptions and, if successful, ultimately force approval of the ANDA. Writing for the Court in a unanimous decision, Justice Elena Kagan chastised the FDA for using ambiguous or opaque guidelines and forms that lend to the confusion surrounding patent decisions.

Life Technologies partners with DaAn Gene
Life Technologies announced that it has signed an agreement with DaAn Gene, a Chinese company in molecular in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), to form Life Technologies DaAn Diagnostics, a joint venture diagnostics business in China. The move is expected to contribute to the early diagnosis of oncology, infectious diseases and genetic diseases. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bayer HealthCare and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals announced that in an integrated analysis of two parallel Phase III studies (VIEW 1 and VIEW 2) in patients with the neovascular form of age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), patients treated with VEGF Trap-Eye showed a sustained improvement in visual acuity at 96 weeks versus baseline.
