Invitrogen launches neuronal primary cell systems

Invitrogen Corp has announced the launch of its GIBCO Primary Rat Cortex and Hippocampus Neurons.
These cells offer an alternative to freshly isolated neurons, which may exhibit significant variability from experiment to experiment.
The cells are isolated from day-18 Fisher 344 rat embryos and cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen.
They offer similar properties, such as viability, purity and cell function, as freshly isolated neurons but minimize lot-to-lot variability.
The cells are optimized to grow in Invitrogen’s Neurobasal media, supplemented with B 27, which is a special formulation of media that meets the specific requirements for growing neuronal cells, and neuronal cells grown in Neurobasal media show minimum or absence of glial cells growth.
