Experts spoke on resistance to anti-malaria drugs and diagnostics for infectious disease

More than 200 researchers from major universities, research institutions and hospitals in Singapore and the region gathered at Biopolis, Singapore, to hear 14 internationally renowned infectious disease and malaria experts from the UK, Singapore and the region present their latest research findings on the anti-malaria drug resistance and diagnostics for infectious disease.
Organised by A*STAR’s Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN) and supported by the British High Commission under the auspices of the “UK-Singapore Partners in Science†Programme, this symposium is the first of its kind to be held in Singapore.
Some topics discussed include “Clinical Responses to Artesunate (anti-malaria drug) in Cambodia and Thailandâ€, “Rapid Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases: Promises and Challengesâ€.
Experts include Rosanna Peeling, who has more than 20 years of research experience in the field of diagnostics, and Georges Snounou, a Malaria expert, who has pioneered the use of PCR amplification for the characterisation of Plasmodium parasites (main cause for malaria).
